Acupuncture at Flourish Family Chiropractic
What is Contemporary Acupuncture?
Contemporary Acupuncture is a technique that targets both the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system to reduce pain, stiffness and overall dysfunction that both Dr. Kirstie and Dr. Paul use. Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine solid acupuncture needles into an anatomically determined site with or without electrical stimulation. This electrical stimulation is for the therapeutic purpose of modulating abnormal activity in the nervous system. Research has shown that the benefits of acupuncture include:
- Decrease pain and inflammation
- Increase circulation and promote tissue healing
- Increase range of motion
- Interrupt the transmission of pain from the injury site to the brain
- Relax muscle spasms by fatiguing the muscle
What to Expect
Using a painless needling technique, most patients do not even feel the needles being inserted and can relax for the duration of the treatment which can range from 10-30 minutes. The number of needles will vary each treatment depending on the muscles and nerves being targeted.
